When Interruptions Become Invitations

My morning has been full of interruptions. All I ask is quiet time to read my Bible and worship the Lord!!

Everyone knows: Bible open, mouths closed!!!

Well, not this morning!!

Phone calls, questions, and frustration building up and overflowing. It was becoming impossible to worship Jesus while feeling angry with everyone around me.

I asked the Holy Spirit for help!

Later, the Lord reminded me that Jesus was interrupted many times along His way. Yet He responded to the needs of those who interrupted Him with compassion. He healed, He forgave, He blessed, and so much more.

Matthew 9:18–22 tells the story of a ruler who came to Jesus because he wanted Jesus to come and lay His hands on his daughter so she could live. As Jesus was on His way to see the daughter, a woman with an issue of blood made her way through the crowd and touched just the hem of His garment.

Jesus saw her. He stopped what He was doing and welcomed the invitation of a desperate woman who wanted healing.

You see, the woman interrupted Jesus. Because of her condition, according to the Law of Moses, she would be considered ceremonially unclean.

This moment did not matter to her. Jesus was in her sight, and she was drawn to the One who could heal her.

She risked everything!

Yet Jesus, perceiving this beautiful interaction, turned to her and said:

“Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well.”

Matthew 9:22 (NKJV)

This interruption became a moment of divine healing for a woman who had suffered for twelve long years.

Maybe I could change my perspective on the interruptions.

Could the very people who are interrupting me be the very people who need my compassion and mercy?

The same compassion and mercy I want to receive from Jesus.

Looking at the interruptions through the Lord’s eyes may take time for me to learn. I am working on asking the Holy Spirit to help guide me in this arena. It may take a lot of faith, but I know that He is helping me!
